Dropbox isn't as small as it once is, and I hear organizational issues are catching up, but it's probably still easier to take more E2E ownership there than at Google. To answer your specific sets of questions: Once again, some people strive in these conditions, while others may not. The culture is generally alright, and because of the large political overhead, projects tend to have somewhat strange schedules and may change sponsors quite a bit. It's a hallmark of larger corporations, and it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Even the 元 -> L4 promotion requires some level of relationship building and networking, and the L4+ promotion processes are significantly more political. In particular, politics is very important at Google to progress. I'm currently an engineer at Google, and while the internship probably gave you pretty good visibility into how things worked here, there are other aspects of Google that are harder to gauge without being here for a few years. Will you still be in the same company in ten years time? I think the flip-side of this that you should consider is:
A ten year horizon is a pretty long time, your career trajectory after ten years will likely take you into management positions at either company.
